Nerikomi Sunday 3 sessions Nov‘24

ALL LEVELS

Nerikomi, or Neriage is a technique to create interesting pottery surfaces by combining multiple clays/coloured clays. The basic idea of the technique is the same with agateware and marbled ware; we create patterns in the clay body. In Japan, the technique has been developed further to create geometric patterns, floral motifs and cartoon characters etc etc.

This course gives you an insight into the pattern making using the Japanese Nerikomi technique. You will learn the basic rules, tips and tricks in manipulating clay while exploring a variety of patterns. You will also have a chance to develop your own design while trying various constructing techniques.

You will form simple shapes: plates and bowls with the Nerikomi slab, and we will finish the rest. Your pieces will be ready for collection in about a month after the last session.

The duration of the class is between 1400 and 1900. The course fee includes all the materials and firing cost up to a total of 2kg. Beyond that the charge will be 80p per 100g. (higher than the normal studio firing charge for the additional work; sanding and the cost of stains / colours.)

The course runs between 14:00 and 19:00 on Sundays: 10th, 17th & 24th November.
