This course mainly focuses on the fundamental skills to manage and control clay on the potter’s wheel.
You will learn the basic and very important wedging and centring skills, first, then how to throw simple shapes such as cylinders and bowls. You will learn how to pull handles for mugs & cups and how to create textures and apply surface decorations using found objects, sculpting tools and decorating slips etc.
As your skills progress, or if you already have a strong foundation, we’re happy to teach you more advanced techniques.
The last day of the course is a glazing session. The glazed work should be fired within a week or a month depending on our firing schedule.
The material and firing costs are not included in the course fee. If you would like to keep any of your pieces, the charge for this is calculated on the weight and the space that takes up in the kiln (typically, 55p per 100g).
These courses run once a week for 10 weeks on every Thursday evening between; 10 October - 12 December ‘24
